About EXIF Metadata

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in JPEG and TIFF files by cameras and smartphones. It records camera make and model, lens information, exposure settings (ISO, shutter speed, aperture), focal length, GPS coordinates, and the date and time the photo was taken. This tool reads that data entirely in your browser — the image file never leaves your device.

What EXIF data is stored?

Camera phones store a significant amount: the device make and model, software version, GPS coordinates (if location was enabled), date and time, image dimensions, and the exposure settings. Dedicated cameras add lens model, focal length in 35mm equivalent, metering mode, flash status, and white balance. Screenshots and web images typically contain no EXIF data at all.

Privacy note

If you share photos publicly, they may carry GPS coordinates that reveal where the photo was taken. Many social platforms strip EXIF data on upload. If privacy matters, strip the EXIF before sharing using an image editor or online tool.
